Richard Hepp

President and CEO

Richard began his career in Energy after completing his bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Calgary. Over the next 12 years, Richard would provide technical consulting services in the areas of regulatory program management and operations, exposing him to emissions reporting and how under-utilized technology and data analysis is in the field. His experience and formal education have allowed him to develop software tools that saved thousands of man- hours and create all new optimization opportunities for companies around the globe.

Ross Mann

Chief Technology Officer

Ross started his programming career at Loblaws, the largest private employer in Canada, building tech systems to drive company growth and efficiency. He then became a lead developer of optimization and simulation software in the gas compression field. After the sale of the gas compression software company, Ross started a tech firm specializing in converting paper-based Oil & Gas exploration systems to a digital knowledge base. His firm also amalgamated publicly-available government data into a simplified searchable website. While active as a tech consultant, Ross has developed digital tools that support air quality monitoring and management, aiding the reporting of substance exceedances to provincial governments.

Elisa Tomljanovic

Business Operations Manager

Elisa began her career in HSE consulting, collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders. Continually seeking opportunities for personal and professional development, she embarked on additional education in the field of IT. Following this, she dedicated herself to aiding a varied clientele in optimizing their systems through the application of technology. Elisa utilizes her proficiency in technology and organizational strategies to guarantee success for both the eMission team and our valued clients.

Reporting & Penalties

Environmental regulations worldwide mandate emission reporting to ensure accountability and promote sustainability. Non-compliance penalties are not limited to specific industries and can result in significant financial repercussions.

The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, S.C. 1999, c. 33 is the federal legislation that mandates emission reporting in Canada. Environment Canada facilitates the National Pollutant Registry Inventory (NPRI) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting. Penalties for non-compliance are not industry specific and can be substantial, up to $300,000 for the first instance of non-compliance and increasing for each non-compliance thereafter. 

 The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s  federal Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) requires reporting of GHG data and other relevant information from large GHG emission sources, fuel and industrial gas suppliers, and CO₂ injection sites in the United States. Approximately 8,000 facilities are required to report their emissions annually. And individual states are implementing regional regulations requiring GHG emissions tracking and disclosure, such as the California Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act.

eMission will make reporting easy and efficient. As emissions become more of a concern through social license and taxes, opportunities will inevitably be presented for economic abatement, but the first step is quantifying the current release volumes.
